SOOOO TIIIRED

And I took a nap! But I feel like I'm dying, and I need to clean and go back to bed so I don't die tomorrow.

Today Kurt and I had delicious cupcakes! Snickerdoodle for him and I got a Mexican Hot Chocolate one. Deliiiicious! Spicy and sweet! Trophy Cupcake is the only place that makes buttercream frosting that I like (besides mixing sugar with butter, that is).

New criteria for apartment hunting
-must be above a thai food place
-and a coffeeshop
-next to a movie theatre
-within delivery radius of all delicious food
-by an H&M, Urban, and Pitaya
-allows cats
-THICK WALLS. that is the most aggravating thing about my apartment. I can't have people over late because the walls are so thin. But that's a plus if you like tejano music at 8am on a Sunday, as I do.

Oh and I kind of think my life is falling apart, but thats also due to immense stress and nonunderstanding of finance.

we're all suckers

Two of the greatest things of my life happened today.

1) when I was looking up sample cover letters (cause-- I don't know what to say to a PAINT STORE), one of them said "gain appreciation for the art you're your Company exhibits". YAY.

2) I was bringing clothes from the downstairs fitting room to the upstairs fitting room, which had a huuuuuge line. I go to the front and hang by the corner, bc the girl in there was helping a customer and I didn't want to crowd them. A chick behind me goes in the snottiest voice ever "You DO know there's a line?!". I just turned around, looked at her (she went OH and then didn't say anything) and then turned back around. And then gave her a death glare, but she was avoiding my gaze. Oh, customers. Bitch thought I was some crazy chick who thought she could cut in line. WHO would think that?

kurtl be proud of me, I'm applying to internships (ugh)

sad abi

When googling my prof of Finance, Adam Kolasinski, I found an article he wrote entitled "A Secular Case Against Gay Marriage". It was full of retardation, as you might expect. His basic case was that straights should get the state-benefits of marriage because they will have babies, which is in our interest. And since gays can't make babies then they haven't proved that they should get the benefits. Ohhh, so lesbians can have babies? Well then it is bad for the kids, because even if they "WONT NECESSARILY MAKE [the children] GAY" they will be messed up with not having a father around. Cause all kids of nongays are growing up in a 2 person unit?

UGH I am going to be giving him the death glare SO HARD in class. I hate it.

clotheeeeeeeees!

Clothes I bought yesterday

($49 at store)

($49 at store)

(aww presh!)

And now I'm looking at all the shows for F/W 2009 and ughhhh I want more! I know I need lacy patterned tights to wear (mix it up from my plain black).

SHOES though! They are all sky high, whether boots or thin or chunky heeled. The chunky heels are very prada/chanel 2000/2001, sort of that slutty-Mary Jane look. Not my favorite, honestly, because sometimes the proportions are wayyy off. I have my brown heels with the whipstitching, anyway, if I neeeed to buy into the clunky heel trend.

The boots are all thigh high to crotch high, meaning that to the knee and above the knee is going to be sold. This is AWESOME, as I don't like ankle boots, and I'm too tall for mid-calf boots (flats just turn into ankle boots, and heeled look so trashy).

Love these! and the ruffle semihides the elastic that keeps them up. (Ohne Titel)

Love these! Like the Posh boots but w/heel. H&M did some like this, but of course we didn't get them here.

Louboutin for Philip Lim. LOVE THEM! Love the color, the material, and the detailing. Note the lace tights. I think it's funny that the shoe collections for this year were more about the almond-toe (not too pointy, but not rounded like it has been), with no platform (but sky high heels, more classic Manolo) but many designers' shows have been platforms still. (however, Miuccia did platforms for Prada, and almond-no-platform for Miu Miu, so take everything with a grain of salt. Or do like I do and take Loubs as the holy grail (I'm so meh about manolo blahnik)).

AHHH love these! They would look soooo cute dressed down with the grey skinnies I just bought. Not the hugest fan of the button-close, but they will be way easier to walk in. PS totes wasn't sure about the pearl heels, but I love them now! It's an interesting detail that's not overwhelming or gimmicky.

 STELLLLAAAAAAAA! Love them!

also these (stella mccartney)

Okay I'm tired now, and I think style.com is tired of me. YAYYYYYY! (now to scout payless, target, and dsw for "designer inspired styles". Let me tell you, kiddies, it is HARD being poor in these beautiful but degenerate times!

last class

Last class, last day of class! YAYYYY! I am so happy that this quarter is so close to being done. And, it is a beautiful day out. I have been messing a LOT up, but so close to being able to make a fresh start in beautiful spring quarter.

Still having the dilemma of whether to take OPMGT 490 (supply chain management, the apparel project) or Modern Chinese History. Cause I feel like I should take opmgt, but ohhhhh how I want to take China!

I'm still reading MAO. Have been since Christmas, it's very slow going. I've been addicted to Salinger, which has interrupted Mao. But, since I keep forgetting to get Nine Stories from Vic, Mao has to do. It's fascinating, but I think I definitely am more interested in the first hand cultural revolution accounts, which are more like stories than pure history. But, I want to read Mao, so that I can read the older Mao books and compare the propaganda. Ahhh, why aren't I doing a thesis on this? Because I am stupid and doing business.

There are five different types of ethical systems:
1) Ethical beliefs revolving around "do no harm"
2) Revolves around "be fair" (US)
3) Be communal (be aware of community's needs- Japan)
4) Respect authority (Saudi Arabia)
5) Keep clean (umhum)

Thank goodness the last couple days of retailing and advertising have been presentations. But IBUS and product management both are still lecturing. I'm not learninnnnngggg!

But, I just got my 25% of my grade test back in IBUS and I missed 2 multiple choice questions, and got 100% on the essay/calc part. Now for that class I just have to do my giant paper. Which I need to completely make up, because I didn't keep a diary of my trades sooooo. Due wednesday.

but retailing is completely done
product mgmt have my final
ibus have my project due wed, and final
advertising- final on sat

work

People always ask me if I like working at H&M. Which I do. I always say that I love it. I love the people that I work with, and I loooove working with clothes. But at the same time, it's frustrating. So much so that sometimes I don't want to go. I have to work 130-930 tomorrow, and I really really don't want to go. It's not just because I am busy with school (which I'm sure it partially is) but that it seems so...mundane? Same thing over and over?

I know that part of it is because of the new store manager. Not only does she not seem friendly, but her efforts to make us more efficient end up causing a lot of work for the managers and sales associates. I really like my dept managers, but Jenny is just not my style. She also doesn't get when I joke, or like to joke around at all.

I may just be getting bitter. I know what to do, and I do it well, and some customers are just awful. AWFUL. Some are fine/great, but many are just jerks. I know I used to smile wayyyy more, now I don't even make eye-contact all the time.

And I don't feel challenged or like I'm doing anything worthwhile. I guess me being there is benefiting my coworkers, cause I am in the better half that work there. But that is hardly why I am going to school, is it?

I just want a break. I still love working at H&M, but dag, yo, it is getting harder and harder to be happy about going to work. And any shift over 4 hours (like...all of them) is making me bitter. And bitter means stress, and stress causes wrinkles.

my team is AWESOME!

Ahh, Twitterpation. (A state of infatuation, if anyone is curious. It's from Bambi, NOT La Bamba as I originally thought.) As of yesterday, we had 7 minutes of presentation material. We thought it was a 10 min presentation, so we decided to do a little Aaron Cartering to fill in time. Today, we found out it's a 15 min presentation, about 10 min before we started. SNAPS!

14 min 47 seconds! YAAAAYYYY!!!! My group is awesome, we didn't prepare much at all and rocked it out. Now for this class (retailing) we only have to finish our marketing plan and turn it in monday. Life is good! (And my retailing team is amazing! I was driving yesterday and categorizing us, and I came up with three types. Bitches (abi, kurt, ryan), nice kids (sammy, lindsay) and confused (Mackenzie, who is a finance major and refuses to touch the financial part of our business plan). I think we work well together, even if the bitches are all a little high strung. In the best way that includes snapping and dancing to Aaron Carter in Ode.)

And my procrastinating and learning about bacon and chocolate paid off. WTF!

(note: stole our website from vosges.com, which I explored last night. It made me want delicious truffles. Instead, I had a bran muffin. mmm, fiber.

OLD MAN SMELL

I'm at Odegaard trying to study for my two gross midterms tomorrow, and I am sitting by an OLD MAN. Who has OLD MAN SMELL and is eating old man candy. But mostly the smeeeelll ew. I would move but all the not-by-old-man seats are taken. I realize why this one was vacant. I didn't bother bringing my laptop, cause guuhh Ode has computers and I'm here to NOT be distracted.

I'm feeling okay about my IBUS test, it may be fine and it may be horrible. I can do all the calculations (the "essay question" portion of the test) but my multiple choice skills...like always, bleh. If there is a 50/50 chance, I will ALWAYS, INVARIABLY choose the wrong one.

ANYWAY

I AM 21! YAY!

I went home Friday night to be with my family. It was nice and low-ish key, but I didn't sleep much that night because I have a hard time sleeping when other people are awake, and my mom gets up at 730 AT THE LATEST. Spent Saturday with them (kind of), my sister baked me a cake (which my cats ate some of when I came back to seattle) and we ate Subway. Came back to Seattle around 5.

AND INSTANTLY HAD TO GO SHOPPING! YAY! Vic needed fashion advice and I love to dispense my heard-earned wisdom. She got a lovely white cotton halter dress from J. Crew, and then a coral sweater from H&M (Modern Classic cardigan, orig $29.90 now 30% off!) and we parted ways to get ready for the night.

And then went to dinner at Il Terrazzo Carmine, a nice italian restaurant FULL OF MAFIA. But we felt very adult, sitting at the bar while we waited for our table (vic got a lemondrop, I got a cosmo, they matched us purely based on color).

Oh my goodness guys. Carmine's is THE MOST DELICIOUS FOOD EVER. Wonderful bread (how Vic and I judge a good restaurant) and then salads with walnuts and goat cheese. Vic got the gnocchi of course, and I got spaghetti with arugula, tomatoes, and more goat cheese. For dessert, vic had ice-cream-puffs and I had chocolate cake.

Most delicious meal ever. We were the youngest couple there by about 25 years. The only other young people in there were (a) with parents or (b) waiters. All in all a delicious success.

Then came home and I was super tired and didn't feel like going out, and other people were tired too, so we vetoed Capital Hill shenanigans until we felt more like going out. Greg and Amanda ended up taking me to Flowers, where I had a dirty girl lemonade. GUYS! I finished TWO DRINKS in about 5 hours. Well on my way to becoming an alcoholic, I am sure.

And then came home and slept for a million hours, which is why I am not dead at the library. But I still don't feel like studying, poo

People I hate

NEEDY WOMEN! I am in the labs and the woman behind me came up to her friend and was whining about how she (the friend) had been ignoring Needy Woman. This included accusing Friend of not saying hello when she walked into the labs, and then not acknowledging when she saw her at a coffee place. And this was a lonnnng convo and apparently Friend did not call Needy Woman back, which was a personal snub to Needy Woman.

UGHHHHHH it was so annoying.

On the plus side, Samantha Vo and I have acknowledged that we went to jr high/highschool together. Of course, we have talked more in this class already than we had in the FIVE years we went to the same school.

HOLY SHIT TIME OUT! A kid in his motorized wheelchair is standing on his knees on it and motoring it BACKWARDS OUT OF THE LAB! HOW IS THAT POSSIBLE. In the popular phrase of this week, it's blowing my mind.

AJHFLJSDLFJDSLFJLDSKJF love abi

Spring Quarter

OMGOMGOMGOMG!

So, because I decided to do RMP that means that I won't graduate early. Boo. BUT BUT BUT! That means that next quarter I can take just ONE business class (Information Systems, poop) and then TWO history classes.

HISTORY OF MODERN CHINA!!!!!!!!! and it's not taught by Yue Dong, who I haaaaate. HAAAATE. OMGOMGOMG. I am so excited for HSTAS 454 you don't even know.

OH AND GUESS WHAT ELSE? Giebel, my favorite prof ever is teaching a class! HSTAS 462, SE Asia history to 1800. While this isn't the time period I am interested in (preferring 20th C above all) I love SE asia and I LOVE Giebel.

And then I can take IS which is stoopid but whatev.

My schedule would be

Monday: SE Asia 230- 420, IS 430-620
Tuesday: China 330- 520
Wednesday: SE Asia 230- 420, IS 430-620
Thursday: China 330-520, IS 530-620
Friday: Nothing

YAAAAAAAAAAAAAY! I love school again!

AHHHH (or, I sold my soul to UW)

OKAY. SO I have 2 quarters left of school. This is either Spring and Summer or Spring and Fall. And then I could be done, and concentrate on finding a real job, and be super happy because I don't want to be in school anymore.

OR.

I could do what I did. I could join the retail management program (get my R-M certification as an add on to my marketing degree) and then be in school for another year. FUCK? But I'm really excited about it, and some people I like are in the program and the advisers are AWESOME. Also this means I can spread out 34 credits over 4 quarters (no school in summer) and be lazzzzzy or be super-best Retail management student ever.

The certification isn't even that great, cause uhhh I don't want to be a manager at a store? But maybe I do? Maybe I have to? But I do want the guaranteed internship this summer in a retail place. I'm not sure where, because Nordstrom is like the HUUUUUGEST ever and tons and tons of people do it. But it seems like the only bigger retailer and I def want to do apparel. They are trying to get Adidas to do internships which would be interesting, but I would be hilariously out of place. Also Gamestop, where I would kill myself. KILL. Kohl's is doing a big thing with them, but I've never been to a Kohl's store, so I might hate it. Also Target, but same, I might hate working there, since I only go there for snacks and DVDs.

UHHHGGHHHHH. I need to finish my application for the program (even though I am already in) and then turn it in tomorrow on my lunch. I went and saw one of the advisers yesterday in her office. Look at me network! (Puke!)

Also one of the girls in the program is a manager at Victoria's Secret and I want to ask her if she knows the COR who stole from H&M, but that's awkward if she does! (But I want to gossip. Must become her friend even though I don't approve of her eyeliner.)

As evidenced by my writing and sporadic capitalization, I haven't slept much in days and am feeling rather manic.

I'm hungry.

Dilemma!

It's my day off. Should I
[a] do laundry
[b] go buy new clothes

I pretend that there is a decision to be made there. If you know me at all, you know the answer.

I've already bought so many new clothes though! But I need to be even MORE delightfully fash this quarter, otherwise I might die. I don't like the idea of school overshadowing stuff that I like. Plus Kurt is super gay and clothes, sooo I can look bad! THE GAYS ARE EXPECTING SO MUCH OF ME!

Off I go to shop!

Day Three

Water Centers Seminar: Way to make it impossible for me to not go! The first topic (50 minutes long) was on creating water dist. in southern China. HI! I love me some China. The lecturer spoke a million languages (Mandarin, a southern dialect, french, english). I do not fit in with all the environmental people there, but they seemed generally okay.

Possible book club books
The Kite Runner
The Secret Life of Bees (said to be esp good for women)
Middlesex

Have not looked into these, but they are pretty famous. And The Secret Life of Bees was made into a movie.

and a few hours later

OKAY so my product management class is taught by a kindly old man! HOW CAN I RESIST! I don't think I will be able to drop it. Fortunately, it doesn't seem toooo hard. Prof talked about the Wii, the Boeing dreamliner, and the iPhone. That was kind of neat. I like examples and I like to buy PRODUCTS.

My IBUS prof is a hoot. Also, a douche. He's from NEW YORK and you can tell (in his accent) and he delivers everything in this dry tone that is reminiscent of Bob Loblaw. But getting 375/400 points means that you get a 4.0 in the class which is good. He doesn't curve it at all though, which means that from 0 to 374 points, you know your grade 100%. We shall see. At least the international business stuff seems interesting, and I liked him/it even though he doesn't have the greatest delivery. He talked a lot about the recession etc which is pretty interesting, and a lot about American greed which was actually funny. Plus he is very IRISH, as in his name is Jerimiah Sullivan, from New York, and told us that our final is on St Patricks Day, and yes he will be drunk.

The chick next to me in IBUS was gross though, she looks like a bird (was in my marketing class) and was laughing at the prof which I HATE. But, I also hate that we are using the book that the prof wrote.

First day of class

NOTE: I could not remember my LJ name, but I could remember Meg's so I had to go to her livejournal and see what my username was on her friends list.

This is an email I sent to my mother after the first class of the day...
*
*
*
Hey guys!

First day of school and it's already going fairly well. I just had my Retailing
class (which I am trying to get into, Leta, the prof, likes me and is fighting
for me to get in, but the Undergraduate office is being horrible. I went with
Kurt, this other kid trying to get in, and the lady at the front desk was very
rude. Leta wrote that we could get in, and then when I said "since Leta said
it's okay we will get in, right?" (because I don't want to buy a $100 book for
nothing!) and the lady goes-"No. We let you in."

Helpful. Yeah, I understand that "they" let us in, since it says that we have
to get our add codes from the undergraduate office. She didn't need to be rude
about it, and it will take up to a WEEK for them to email us our add codes, and
then we have only 24 hours to use them. So I will be checking my email
constantly.

Sitting next to Kurt is fun, he is either slightly closeted gay orrrr
unfortunately straight. Used to work at Abercrombie, was looking at Romantic
Comedies on Netflix before class, has 7 older sisters. If the first two weren't
enough to make him gay, the last almost definitely would! Another clue that
he's gay is that we get along. And the gays and I just looooove each other. So
this is promising to be a fun class (assuming I get in! Kurt was joking that we
would have to fight for the last spot, a cage deathmatch. I'm pretty sure I
would win. He is bigger but I am probably meaner.)

My schedule for today (and all Mondays and Wednesdays) is as follows:

1030-1220: Retailing (marketing 370)
1230-220: Product Management (marketing 410)
230-420: International environment of business (I BUS 300)
430-620: Advertising (marketing 340)

And on Tuesdays I have a class 830-920, a "Water Center Seminar" that is one
credit based on whether we show up or not. Fortunately, I am good at getting up
early (even if I don't want to). Unfortunately, it is allllll the way across
campus, so that is about a mile to be walked at 8am in the wintertime. At least
it will wake me up enough to learn about WATER!

Regarding my Mon/Wed schedule, I might drop a class. That would be my product
management (too bad that isn't the one at the 430-620 spot!) which could be an
interesting class, but I'm not enthused about it like I am my others. I figure
I can get up and get all ready for the day, go to retailing, and then come home
and take a nap. (Or, do homework, but I'm trying to be honest with myself and I
know I will find a nap more valuable.)

If I don't drop a class, I will be signed up for 17 credits, which is more than
I want, but if I DO drop a class, then I will have only 13 and that is fewer
than I want! (Even though I only took 12 last quarter and it was glorious.) I'm
going to try to tough it out and do 17, because then that puts me back on track
for graduating super early, whichhhhh I like to stick to because it's a plan.
On the other hand, I don't care that much because I won't be able to get a job
anyway. But, if I keep tot this schedule then I won't have to take any classes
over the summer and still graduate a quarter early. We shall see. If product
management seems like it will be horrible, then I won't go.

SO. This could really go either way. Either I could love all my classes, in
which case I don't mind being busy, at least it makes the days WHIP by (really,
I can feel the pain in my neck!). Plus, I'm going to try to work fewer hours at
work ("try", meaning that they are cutting everyone's hours which is fine by me!
The full-timers are not so pleased)

Another problem with the busy schedule is that it cuts down on my new years
resolutions, which are to exercise regularly (meg gets up at 530 so she can go
to the gym, I am not that dedicated, preferring to put it off until around 530,
and then it's too dark so I guess I have to lay around and eat bonbons) and to
keep my house clean. Cleaning goes out the window if I get busy, which is less
conducive to a good study environment than it could be. But who wants to CLEAN
in their free time? Only freaks and perverts.

And now I come to the true subject of my email, which I forgot in telling you
the gossip. Tuition this quarter is $2317 and my books are looking to be around
$400, even though I try to get them all used. College life is expensive.

A girl I went to high school with (though we weren't friends or anything) is in
my retailing class and I don't know whether I should act like we don't know each
other, or just awkwardly be like HI HOW ARE YOU. I prefer the solution of
ignoring the problem until she makes the first move; and also sitting no where
near her. Excellent.

A month until I'm 21! Best part about turning 21 will be being able to go out
DANCING! Do not care about bars except that they have trivia nights, which
sound insanely fun. Do you think that they would serve me milk?

Love, Abi

HairClothesLooks

I am ridiculously bored with how I look. I am reallllly sick of my hair color (well, the color it will be once I can get to the damn store! The snow is crimping my plans to go get more bleach, sooo I'm stuck with half-dyed half roots hair. Which means I have to wear it up, which I hate.

Anyway, I think that I kind of want to go back to
THAT kind of hair. I like that color! Or something ManicPanicy orrrrr SOMETHING! Manic Panic has some stuff that can turn your hair WHITE after bleaching it, which seems promising as a starter change. Voila

And then when it starts rooting go darker? I can't stand brown or grossred, sooo something in the purplyauburn fambly maybe?

Also want gray suede boots. URBAN OUTFITTERS IM COMING! Though all the boots are probably sold out since people think they would be good for snow. Stupppid.

Cabin Fever!
